Do Not Adjust Your Set OR....

your eyes...

Yes, some of the letters on this sampler are "upside down".....

I posted (quite awhile back) about the possible meanings of this, including one being that Mary may have been writing in code - or... that her younger sister had taken over her sampler and did it wrong.... When I finish stitching it, I will retell you all that is said about this adorable piece.

I can't wait to hear the story. I don't think I've seen a sampler with the writing upside down.

How neat!! I think it is a neat twist for a sampler. Looking forward to the mystery unfolding!

I too am intrigued to hear the 'rest of the story,' Ms. Paul Harvey. :80) I would also like to be added to the mix for the give away, please. Your kitty looks like a couple of mine.

For me, one of the charms of the antique or repro samplers are the "mistakes". I can just imagine some young girl, who might rather be outside playing with her brothers, working on her sampler.

I'm currently working on a repro on which it appears the young girl who originally stitched it ran out of room for the wording. No problem....she just stitched the remaining letters smaller (over one). lol!
